Deepti Sharma gave her career best performance (5/10) against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. Recovering from poor form, he led India to victory. With this performance she also became the bowler taking the most wickets (166) in Women’s T20I.
Birmingham: All-rounder Deepti Sharma has expressed her happiness after leading India to a one-sided victory against Pakistan in the Women’s T20 World Cup. Just before the World Cup, Deepti was facing a lot of criticism due to her poor form, but against Pakistan she gave the best performance of her career (5/10). After this incredible performance, Deepti spoke with great reverence and confidence.
Deepti said, “I am thankful to God, Hanuman ji is great.” I love playing ICC tournaments. I have started this World Cup from the same place where I ended the last ICC tournament (ODI World Cup Final). Let us tell you that in the 12 matches played before this World Cup, Deepti was able to take only 14 wickets, due to which serious questions were being raised on her form. Even on the tours of Australia and South Africa, she was neither able to score runs nor take wickets.
But with taking 5 wickets in this match, Deepti Sharma became the bowler taking the most wickets (166 wickets) in the history of Women’s T20 International cricket. He broke the record of Thailand’s Thipacha Puthavong (165 wickets). Additionally, she also became the second Indian woman player after Jhulan Goswami to complete 350 wickets in international cricket.
Talking about her poor form, Deepti said, “To be honest, when I was not getting wickets, I was not worried at all. I was confident that when the right time comes, I will be able to perform well for the team. I always bowl with this thinking.” Deepti, who came to bowl in the powerplay, broke Pakistan’s opening pair. She gave a great start to India by dismissing Gul Firuza and Ayesha Zafar.
Tremendous runout: Pakistani opener Muniba Ali (41 runs), who was looking dangerous after getting two lives in the match, was run out by Deepti on a straight throw by running from backward point. This wicket proved to be the turning point of the match. In the 17th over of Pakistani innings, Deepti took the last 3 wickets in just 5 balls and reduced Pakistan to 106 runs. He took 5 wickets for just 10 runs in 4 overs, which is the best spell of his career.
