The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has formally requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to shift the India versus Sri Lanka one-day international (ODI) match scheduled in Delhi, a DDCA source confirmed.
Sri Lanka are set to tour India next month for a series comprising three ODIs and three Twenty20 internationals (T20Is). The ODI series is due to commence on December 13 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, followed by matches in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad.
According to the DDCA source, the association has asked the BCCI to relocate the match, citing ongoing ground renovations and adverse weather conditions in Delhi during December which would complicate staging the event. “We have officially requested the BCCI that we can’t host the India vs Sri Lanka ODI on 13 December because our ground is under renovation, and there is also a weather issue in the same month. We are not in a condition to organise a match in December. We requested the board with the same. Also, in December we have a weather issue in the capital, so let’s see what outcome we get, but for now we can’t host that ODI match,” the source stated.
Following the ODI series, the India and Sri Lanka teams will contest three T20I matches scheduled in Rajkot, Cuttack and Pune.
Meanwhile, Team India are currently touring New Zealand after winning the five-match T20I series 3-2. The Shubman Gill-led side will next compete in a five-match ODI series beginning at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday, which will be followed by a two-match Test series.
