CSK deliver Exit news as Legendary cricketer set to leave Coaching Role after Zaheer Khan Arrival

Chennai Super Kings are preparing for a significant overhaul of their coaching structure ahead of IPL 2027, with long-serving batting coach Mike Hussey becoming the latest high-profile name to leave the franchise.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, CSK have removed the Australian great from their coaching roster as part of a broader restructuring exercise.

CSK undergoing coaching Overhaul

The development follows several major changes within the five-time IPL champions. Stephen Fleming has been removed as head coach, with former India pacer Zaheer Khan appointed as his successor. Former bowling coach Eric Simons has also departed, while former CSK player Mohit Sharma has been brought in to replace him.

The future of fielding coach James Foster remains uncertain. The franchise has reportedly put a decision on his contract extension on hold. Foster joined CSK last year, and a final call on his position is expected as the management continues to assess its coaching requirements.

Hussey’s departure marks the end of an eight-year stint as CSK’s batting coach, a role he assumed in 2018 after spending six seasons representing the franchise as a player. He first joined CSK in 2008, returned in 2010 after missing the 2009 campaign, and remained with the side until 2013. Following a season with Mumbai Indians in 2014, he returned to Chennai in 2015.

Despite his exit, Hussey could remain involved in the IPL, with the report indicating that he has been in contact with a few franchises.

The latest appointments are also understood to carry the influence of MS Dhoni, with further recruitment decisions likely to involve consultations with Zaheer and the former CSK captain.

CSK sources indicated that decisions on the remaining coaching positions will be finalised after owner Rupa Gurunath returns to India from South Africa, where she recently attended the SA20 auction. The franchise’s revamped coaching group is expected to take clearer shape as preparations for IPL 2027 gather pace.

CSK are aiming to return to IPL 2027 in a bolstered fashion. The five-time IPL champions have had a torrid time in the last three seasons, where they failed to qualify for the playoffs.
