New Delhi [भारत]July 30 (ANI): Telecom Secretary Amit Agarwal on Thursday said India’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior will help the country emerge as a global hub for telecom design, development and manufacturing. He said that major investors have expressed their commitment for this project from the very beginning.
India on Thursday signed an agreement to set up the country’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior. The Center expects an investment of Rs 2,000 crore and creation of over 4,500 jobs in the first phase, while the next phase aims to invest at least Rs 10,000 crore.
This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Department of Industries, Government of Madhya Pradesh in the presence of Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Minister of State for Communications Chandrashekhar Pemmasani.
Big step towards self-reliant India
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Agarwal said the initiative will strengthen domestic manufacturing, boost innovation and build a resilient supply chain in line with the government’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
In his address, Aggarwal said, ‘By encouraging domestic production, promoting innovation and developing flexible supply chains, this zone will enable India to move from being one of the largest telecom markets in the world to becoming a hub for telecom design, development and manufacturing.’
The Telecom Secretary further said that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is the beginning of a structured framework to create a globally competitive telecom manufacturing ecosystem in the country.
‘Today’s MoU translates that shared vision into a concrete institutional framework to develop a globally competitive telecom manufacturing ecosystem,’ he said.
Major investors expressed confidence
Aggarwal also highlighted the participation of industry players in the initiative and said the early commitment from major investors reflects the confidence in the project.
He said, ‘I particularly appreciate the major investors whose participation in the zone since its inception reflects their belief in this initiative and their determination to turn words into action.’
According to him, the Telecom Manufacturing Zone is an important step towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self-reliant and globally competitive India.
“It also has the potential to attract substantial investment, generate skilled employment and create new opportunities for local enterprises and young professionals,” Agarwal said.
Full cooperation of central and state government
Reaffirming the support of the Department of Telecommunications, Aggarwal said that the Department will provide policy and institutional support to create a conducive environment for investors and ensure successful development of the zone.
He said the initiative also reflects cooperative federalism, with the Centre, Madhya Pradesh government and industry working together to develop a manufacturing hub that will contribute to India’s emergence as a global telecom manufacturing hub. (ANI)
