Copper, steel, silver or any other metal… with which metal should Bholenath be anointed?

It is important to perform Jalabhishek on Shivling in a proper vessel.

Mahadev Worship Guidelines: In Sanatan Dharma, the metal of the vessel is given special importance in the worship of Gods and Goddesses. This rule is especially applicable in the worship of Mahadev. According to the scriptures, to please Lord Bholenath, it is necessary to offer water or milk in a proper manner and in the right vessel. However, many people unknowingly use some metal vessels, which may bring misfortune in their lives instead of pleasing Mahadev.

According to Shiv Purana and other scriptures, while offering water to Shivalinga, it is important to know which metal vessel should be used for offering water and which metal vessel should not be used at all?

With which metal should Jalabhishek be performed on Shivalinga?

Copper vessel: According to the scriptures and astrology, the best and sacred metal for offering water to Shivalinga is copper. When water is offered in a copper vessel to Lord Shiva, he becomes extremely happy. With this, planetary defects are removed and happiness and peace is maintained in the family. Scientifically, water that comes in contact with copper becomes extremely pure and bacteria-free.

Brass or bronze vessel: After copper, brass is considered the most auspicious material. If for some reason you do not have a copper vessel, you can use a brass vessel to offer water to Shivling. There is also a provision for using brass utensils in Shiva worship.

Silver or gold vessel: Those who can afford it can use silver or gold vessels. Especially by offering water or Ganga water on Shivalinga in a silver vessel, the inauspicious state of Moon is removed and mental peace is achieved.

Why should these utensils not be used?

Avoid offering milk or Panchamrit in a copper vessel: Keep in mind, offering water in a copper vessel is considered very auspicious, but do not offer milk, curd or Panchamrit on Shivalinga even by mistake. According to the scriptures, if milk is kept in a copper vessel, it becomes poisonous due to chemical reaction, hence if you want to perform Abhishekam with milk, then always use a brass or silver vessel.

Iron-Steel Vessel: In modern times, many people use iron and steel vessels to offer water to Shivalinga at home or temple. According to the scriptures, iron or steel vessels for offering water to Shivalinga are not auspicious at all. Iron is considered the metal of Shani Dev and there is a rule not to use this metal during worship and festivals. Steel is also a form of iron, hence using it can render the puja ineffective.

Aluminum or Plastic: Aluminum is considered to be Rahu’s metal or impure metal, hence use of aluminum and plastic utensils is prohibited in any puja, not just Shiva puja. There is more risk of inauspiciousness than getting good fortune from this.
