There is a dispute regarding the mosque on the land of Kharkhoda police station in Meerut. Calling it illegal occupation, the police have given 7 days’ notice to the Imam. The Mosque Committee is calling it the property of the Waqf Board. The administration will check the documents of both the parties.
Meerut: Controversy has heated up regarding a mosque in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. Police claim that this mosque has been built by occupying the land of the police station. The matter pertains to Kharkhoda police station on Meerut-Bulandshahr road. The police say that the mosque is on their land, while the mosque committee is saying that it is the property of the Waqf Board.
In this case, the police has issued a seven-day notice to the Imam of the mosque. In the notice, it has been asked to show the ownership documents of the land and to remove the encroachment. This entire matter came to light when the Revenue Department measured the land recently. During measurement, it was found that Jama Masjid, built in the campus of Kharkhoda Police Station, is present on the land of the police station itself.
According to officials, Kharkhoda police station dates back even before independence. According to revenue records, 6,450 square meters of land has been registered in the name of the police station for decades. Police allege that a mosque was later built on a part of this land.
At the same time, the Mosque Committee and Imam Abdul Ghaffar have completely rejected these claims of the police. He says that this land is registered in the name of Waqf Board since 1985 and he has all the necessary documents related to it. The mosque management also said that they have handed over a copy of these documents to the police.
Kithore’s Circle Officer Pramod Kumar Singh and Kharkhoda’s Station House Officer Rajpal Singh said that notice was given to Imam on Saturday. In this, it has been asked to remove the alleged illegal construction and present the ownership documents within seven days.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Abhijeet Kumar said, “The mosque is several years old. The matter came to light recently when the land of the police station was demarcated.” He said that the administration will closely examine the documents and revenue records of both the parties, only after which any further steps will be taken.
