There was a tussle among the royal family in Udaipur, after this the district administration has now appointed a receiver for the disputed portion in the City Palace located in the city. According to officials, this decision has been taken after the tension on Monday night over Vishvaraj Singh and his supporters entering the place of worship to have darshan of Dhuni.
According to tradition, after the death of former Mewar royal family member and former MP Mahendra Singh Mewar, the coronation ceremony of his elder son Vishwaraj Singh Mewar was performed in the Chittor Fort on 25 November. After coronation, Vishvaraj Singh wanted to have darshan of Dhuni situated in the City Palace of Mewar, Udaipur, but he was not allowed to have darshan. In such a situation, when Vishvaraj Singh’s supporters came to know about this, they protested outside the palace and this protest turned into a big ruckus, after which the police were called to control the situation.
receiver appointed
Ghantaghar Police Station Officer Yogendra Kumar Vyas, who was appointed receiver last night by the Additional District Magistrate, said that possession has not been taken so far. He said that the situation remained under control on Tuesday. On the other hand, Vishvaraj Singh said that he was stopped from going to Dhuni, which is his right.
Vishvaraj Singh said that he will go to Eklingnathji temple on Wednesday. District Collector Arvind Poswal said that an FIR has been registered against unknown persons in connection with the stone pelting that took place last night and legal action will be taken against them under relevant sections. He said that efforts are being made to resolve the matter through talks with both the parties. Due to tension, the markets near City Palace also remained closed today.
Why was entry prevented?
There is a dispute between Mahendra Singh Mewar (Vishvaraj’s father) and his younger brother Arvind Singh Mewar and the City Palace is under the control of Vishvaraj’s uncle Arvind Singh Mewar. After being appointed receiver for the portion from Badi Pol to Dhuni, Vishvaraj Singh went to his residence at around 1.30 pm on Monday night without even visiting Dhuni.
At the same time, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, son of uncle Arvind Singh Mewar, said on Tuesday night that it is not right to risk people’s lives in the name of worship or darshan. He said that some people holding government positions are putting pressure on the administration for personal gain and are trying to forcibly enter someone’s house.
Lakshyaraj said, there was a possibility of such a situation, so we had informed the administration several days ago. He said that it is not right to mislead people in the name of worship.
Dhuni was to go as per tradition
Dhuni in the City Palace is the place where Vishvaraj had to go for darshan after ascending the throne. After Dhuni, he was scheduled to visit Eklingnath ji temple in Udaipur, which is under the control of Arvind Singh. The receiver will now take possession of the area and a decision regarding entry will be made.
Both Dhuni and Eklingnath Ji Temple are under the control of Arvind Singh Mewar and to stop Vishvaraj from entering both the places, he had published two public notices in the local newspapers on Monday through his lawyer. In these, warnings were given of legal action in case of encroachment or damage to property.
After the public notice was published, heavy police force was deployed to handle the situation. After the ceremony, Vishvaraj and his supporters reached Udaipur in large numbers in the evening. Vishvaraj waited for several hours at Jagdish Chowk, a few meters away from the entrance of the City Palace. During this his supporters protested.
Poswal and Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogesh Goyal intervened in the matter and held several rounds of separate talks with Vishvaraj Singh and his cousin Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar (son of Arvind Singh Mewar) to resolve it, but the talks remained inconclusive. Meanwhile, stone pelting started at the main gate of the City Palace late at night. There was stone pelting from both sides, in which three policemen were injured.
As tension escalated, the Additional District Magistrate, Udaipur appointed Ghantaghar police station in-charge as receiver for the disputed portion of the City Palace – from Badi Pol to Dhuni. Vishvaraj Singh is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Nathdwara and his wife Mahima Kumari is the MP from Rajsamand.
