Advance booking gave a big hint
Even before its release, the film got good response in advance booking. According to reports, more than 1.6 lakh tickets were sold in advance for the first day, resulting in a gross collection of around Rs 5.57 crore. After adding block seats and spot booking, this figure reached above Rs 8 crore. The effect of this strong start was also seen in the total collection on the first day.
How far did the sequel go from 2012’s ‘Cocktail’?
The biggest reason behind the initial success of ‘Cocktail 2’ is believed to be the popularity of ‘Cocktail’ released in 2012. The first film starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty in lead roles. That film took an opening of around Rs 10.47 crore on the first day. In this respect, ‘Cocktail 2’ has left it behind in its initial earnings. However, taking into account the impact of ticket sales and inflation, the new film realistically needed an opening of around Rs 18 to 19 crore to surpass the old record.
