Agartala (Tripura) [भारत]July 7 (ANI): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said ensuring all kinds of basic services to the citizens is one of the goals of the state government. He said that Agartala Municipal Corporation is working to ensure various citizen services by developing modern infrastructure in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area.
“The state government does not want to compromise on infrastructure development and expanding the scope of citizen services with transparency,” he said.
Saha said this while inaugurating the newly constructed ward office of Ward No. 40 of Municipal Corporation at Baradowali, Agartala today.
The Chief Minister said that since 2019, there has been a major transformation in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area through the implementation of proper development plans.
Saha said, “In the past, due to government apathy, many water bodies in the municipal corporation area were filled. Road spaces were taken over. This led to chaos in sewage management in the municipal corporation area. Over the last few years, the present state government and the municipal corporation have been working for the development of Agartala city by adopting appropriate schemes.”
Major development works done in the city
He said that 24 water bodies have been renovated and beautified in the municipal corporation area at a cost of Rs 137 crore.
“In municipal corporation areas where there was no provision of drinking water for a long time, drinking water has now been ensured to every household. Township projects have been started for the benefit of people living in cities and urban areas. 48 flats have already been provided. Work on the lighthouse project is underway. A target has been set to provide 79,878 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at a cost of Rs 1,292 crore,” the Chief Minister said. More than 76,000 houses have already been constructed. 4,300 more houses will be provided through Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0.”
Smart cities and employment opportunities
The Chief Minister said that various projects are being implemented under the Smart City Mission to develop Agartala city as a modern smart city.
He further said, “The state government is not only ensuring citizen services but is also working on alternative employment opportunities in urban areas. 6,725 self-help groups have been formed through the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission. Allocation for the TUEP project has been increased. Various types of assistance are being provided to workers engaged in maintaining cleanliness in various urban areas of the state, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation.”
