Delhi HC has issued notice to Center and Delhi Police on alleged police excesses in CJP March. The court directed to reply within 4 weeks and keep all the video footage safe. The next hearing of the case will be on September 11.
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has sought answers from the Central Government and Delhi Police in the case of alleged police excesses during the CJP (Citizens for Justice and Peace) march. After hearing the petitions on Wednesday, Delhi High Court issued notice to the Central Government, Delhi Government and Delhi Police. The court has asked everyone to reply within four weeks. Also, the court has directed that all footage related to the incident, including CCTV camera and bodycam videos, should be kept safe. The next hearing on this case will be on September 11.
Several petitions were filed in the court, alleging that the police resorted to brutality on the students’ demonstration. On Wednesday, Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyay’s bench heard. A heated debate was witnessed in the court during the hearing.
Advocate N. appeared on behalf of the petitioners. Hariharan and Vikas Singh argued that the police brutally attacked the students. He said, “The girls were also misbehaved. Their private parts were also attacked. These atrocities were committed by policemen without badges and we have 110 videos as proof of this.”
However, Additional Solicitor General S. Raju opposed the petitioners’ arguments. He told the court that the crowd had turned violent and policemen had also suffered injuries. He also argued that these petitions are only for attracting public attention and publicity. On this the Chief Justice made a sharp comment and asked, “How can you say that this is for publicity?” After this, the Additional Solicitor General said that he also has videos, in which injuries sustained by policemen are visible. Only after this heated debate, the High Court issued notice to the Central Government, Delhi Police and Delhi Government.
