In the coming days, most parts of India including Delhi are going to be hit by heat wave. People will have to face rainy skies and hot winds. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the maximum temperature in most parts of India in the month of May will be above normal, and the number of heat wave days will be more for about 2 to 8 days. IMD has also said that Average rainfall across the country in the month of May is likely to be normal (91-109% of LPA).
The month of April passed smoothly in most of the states of the country including Delhi NCR. At the same time, the beginning of May is also filled with relief due to snowfall in the mountains at the end of the month. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be relief from heat for 2 to 4 days. But, the coming days are going to be a disaster. People may have to face extreme heat. According to IMD, maximum temperatures in May are expected to be above normal in most parts of the country, except parts of north-east, north-west and central India.
Hot winds will blow for 5 to 8 more days in these states
IMD chief Mrityunjay Mahapatra said that the number of heat wave days in April in West Bengal on the banks of Ganga was the highest in 15 years and in Odisha in 9 years. There will be more heat waves in May. Many states will be in the grip of extreme heat. Heat wave will have a significant impact on life. Mohapatra said that the number of heat wave (loo) days in South Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada and Gujarat region in May is likely to be about 5-8 days more than normal.
There will be more danger of heat wave in these states for 2 to 4 days
Remaining parts of Rajasthan, parts of eastern Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, interior Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, northern interior Karnataka and Telangana and isolated parts of northern Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh. The risk of heat wave in different parts will be higher than normal for 2-4 days.
123 year record broken in April
The severe form of heat was seen in the month of April. People had become restless due to the heat wave. According to the weather agency, the heat in the month of April this year has broken the record of 123 years. The average maximum temperature (31 degrees Celsius) in April in south peninsular India was the second highest since 1901, the weather agency said. The average minimum temperature (22 °C) in April in East and Northeast India was the highest since 1901. IMD chief Mrityunjay Mohapatra said that since the 1980s, maximum temperatures above normal have been continuously occurring in south peninsular India.
