Abhishek Banerjee CID Summon: When has CID asked Abhishek Banerjee to appear? What is this matter related to? What did Abhishek Banerjee say about the investigating agencies?
The actions and political rhetoric of the investigating agencies have once again come into the center of discussion in the politics of West Bengal. West Bengal CID has issued a fresh summons to Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee for the second round of questioning in the alleged forged signature case. He has been asked to appear before the investigating agency on June 14.
This development has sparked a new debate in the politics of the state. On one hand, the investigating agency is taking its process forward, while on the other hand, Abhishek Banerjee is linking it to political pressure and misuse of agencies.
CID team kept waiting for hours to give notice
According to the information, a team of CID officers had reached Abhishek Banerjee’s residence to serve the notice. Although he was not present at home at that time. Officials had to wait for more than three hours to hand over the notice. Later, after the notice was issued, Abhishek Banerjee clearly said that he will fully cooperate in the investigation process and will be present for questioning on the scheduled date.
“I always cooperate with the investigating agencies”
Talking to the media, Abhishek Banerjee said that he had been called for questioning earlier also and he was present before the investigating agency for about five and a half hours. He said that he has been called again on June 14 and he will definitely go there. He said that he has always cooperated with the investigating agencies and will continue to do so.
Abhishek also said that if any notice had to be given to the agencies then any other person could have been assigned, but if the rules did not allow it then the officials had to wait till his return.
Expressed displeasure over leaking of information related to investigation
The TMC MP also raised questions on the information related to the investigation process being made public. He alleged that information related to his appearance and the case is continuously reaching the media. Abhishek Banerjee said that when he himself is not sharing any information regarding the case pending in the court, then how are the things related to the investigation coming out. He indicated that his party is considering legal options regarding this issue and may even approach the High Court if necessary.
Issue of Amit Shah’s statement also raised
Targeting the central government and opposition parties, Abhishek Banerjee said that no complaint was made against him on some allegations during the elections, but now cases are being registered continuously. He raised the question that if political statements are being taken into consideration, then why similar action is not taken on the controversial statements of other leaders. In this context, taking the name of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he raised questions on impartiality.
“TMC cannot be swayed by buying MLAs and MPs”
During his statement, Abhishek Banerjee said in clear words that Trinamool Congress is not going to step back from the politics of pressure. He said that the party will not step back even an inch in this fight nor will it change its political stance out of fear of the investigating agencies. He claimed that despite efforts to win over MLAs and MPs to his side, TMC cannot be weakened.
Keeping an eye on both political and legal fronts
At present the entire matter is under investigation and the next round of CID interrogation is to be held on June 14. In such a situation, it will be important to see in which direction the investigation progresses after the inquiry and how long this phase of political allegations and counter-allegations continues. Amidst the upcoming political equations in West Bengal and the ongoing conflict between the ruling party and the opposition, this matter may become a topic of further discussion in the coming days.
