Raipur. Vishnubhog rice, considered an important part of the traditional agricultural heritage of Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district, is now fast emerging as a unique identity of the district. This rice is not only famous for its natural aroma and excellent quality, but has also become a symbol of the hard work of rural women, dedication of farmers and self-reliant rural economy.

Skill Development, Technical Education and Employment and Scheduled Caste Development Minister Shri Guru Khushwant Saheb, who visited the district, was welcomed by Collector Dr. Santosh Kumar Dewangan by presenting him a packet of the district’s famous Vishnubhog rice. This honor was not only a symbol of an agricultural product, but also the rich agricultural tradition of the district and the efforts being made towards promoting local products.

NRLM Bihan: Women self-help groups are handling the responsibility from production to marketing.

On this occasion, Collector Dr. Santosh Kumar Dewangan informed Minister Shri Guru Khushwant Saheb that under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (BIHAN), the women self-help groups of the district are producing, processing, packaging and marketing Vishnubhog rice with full responsibility.

He said that the demand for Vishnubhog rice is continuously increasing due to its traditional aroma, excellent quality and special taste. Its popularity is now reaching beyond the borders of the state also. On one hand, this has provided regular employment and source of income to women groups, while on the other hand, local farmers are also getting better market for their produce.

Praising Vishnubhog rice, Minister Shri Guru Khushwant Saheb said that this product is an excellent example of the rich agricultural culture of Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district and the hard work of women self-help groups. He said that promoting local products is not limited to economic activities only, but it also becomes an effective medium to establish the identity of a region at the national level. He suggested that the branding and marketing of such products should be further strengthened, so that the income of farmers and women groups can increase continuously and the unique identity of the district can be strengthened across the country.

During the program, Collector Dr. Santosh Kumar Dewangan also honored Haribhoomi and INH Editor-in-Chief Dr. Himanshu Dwivedi by presenting him a packet of the district’s famous Vishnubhog rice. During this, he also shared detailed information about the special agricultural produce of the district, livelihood activities run by women self-help groups and the efforts being made by the administration to promote local products.
