In Raipur Central Jail, 60 women prisoners have been given training in making pickles and spices. The products made by them are being sold and a share of the income is being deposited in their accounts.
Raipur. A commendable initiative has been started in the Central Jail Raipur of Chhattisgarh towards the rehabilitation of women prisoners and making them self-reliant. Under the ‘Nishchay Programme’ of the jail administration, women prisoners are being given employment training, so that they can learn skills while in jail and after their release, they can lead a respectable life and also run their own livelihood. Under this initiative, efforts are being made to empower women prisoners economically by connecting them with vocational skills. After training, she has joined the production work in the jail premises itself and the products made by her are reaching the common people also.
Raipur Central Jail News: 60 women prisoners got training in making pickles and spices
In Central Jail Raipur, 60 women prisoners detained in various cases were given special vocational training in making pickles and spices. The objective of this training is to give them such skills so that they can start their own small industry or business in future. During the training, the women prisoners were taught the complete process of preparing food products. In this, all the necessary information related to maintaining quality, following hygiene, correct packaging, safe storage and commercial production was given practically. After completion of the training, the women prisoners have started preparing pickles regularly in the women’s cell of the jail.
Women Prisoners Self Employment: Mango, lemon, carrot and garlic pickles are being made in jail
The women prisoners are preparing a variety of delicious and hygienic pickles including mango, lemon, carrot and garlic while following complete hygiene and quality standards. The jail administration has also made arrangements for the sale of these products. The prepared pickles are being made available to the general public through the Aastha Mungodi Center (Aastha Griha Udyog Stall) located in the Central Jail complex and the jail canteen. Through this initiative, women prisoners are getting real experience of their skills and their products are also getting market access.
Nishchay Programme: Income from sale deposited directly into the accounts of prisoners
According to the jail administration, a part of the income from the sale of pickles is being deposited directly into the bank accounts of the women prisoners concerned. With this system, women prisoners are becoming financially strong and their confidence to become self-reliant is also increasing. This initiative is not limited to just training but is also providing them real income opportunity.

Central Jail Raipur Superintendent Yogesh Singh Kshatriya said that the objective of the jail is not only to punish criminals but also to bring positive changes in their lives. He told that through the Nishchay program run under the guidance of Jail Director General Himanshu Gupta, various employment related skills are being taught to the women prisoners. The objective of these trainings is to make them self-reliant and prepare them to lead a respectable life in the society after release.
