Fishing becomes a major source of income and employment for rural families

Fishing is no longer limited to just a traditional business. It has become an effective medium of increasing income and employment generation for rural families. Due to various schemes of the government, small and marginal farmers have also got the opportunity to adopt fishing business, due to which positive improvement is being seen in their economic condition.

Jashpur Fish Production: Record of production of 22,805 metric tons in 22 months

The fisheries sector in Jashpur, the home district of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, has made remarkable achievements. Due to the successful implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, 22 thousand 805 metric tons of fish production has been recorded in the district during the last 22 months. This achievement has emerged as a new identity for the development of the fisheries sector of the district. This has also led to a significant increase in the income of thousands of farmers and fishermen.

Big success achieved in fish seed production also

According to the data of Fisheries Department, 18.50 crore spawn, 2.55 crore stage fry and 2.94 crore fish seeds have been produced and stored in the district. This has increased the availability of quality fish seeds at the local level and strengthened fish production capacity.

More than 7 thousand beneficiaries got direct benefits

In Jashpur district, lease of 77.67 hectares of ponds and 295.27 hectares of reservoirs has been allotted to the villagers. Apart from this, more than seven thousand beneficiaries have been benefited through facilities like boats, nets, fingerlings, fishery insurance and marketing assistance. These facilities are helping the fishermen in expanding their business and increasing their income.

Modern Fish Farming: Productivity increasing with modern technology

Under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, up to 60 percent grant is being given for construction of pond, pond liner, biofloc unit and establishment of other modern fishery structures. This has promoted scientific fisheries and along with reduction in production costs, productivity has also increased.

Advanced knowledge gained through training and exposure visits

Exposure visits are being organized in various states to provide information about modern techniques to the fish farmers. Through these programmes, farmers and members of self-help groups are receiving training in advanced techniques of scientific fisheries, pond management, seed management, balanced diet, disease control and marketing. This is making fishing business more profitable and sustainable.
