Raipur. On the instructions of Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister and Public Works Minister Arun Sao, the department has issued a notice to the contractor regarding the slow progress of the railway overbridge project under construction near Keslur. The department has clarified that this action has been taken due to the work not being done as per the scheduled deadline and the pace of construction continuously lagging behind.
Deputy CM Arun Sao Inspection: Negligence revealed during inspection
Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, during his visit to Bastar on June 6, had inspected the four-lane railway overbridge being built over the Kirandul-Vishakhapatnam railway line on the Keshalur-Jagdalpur route on National Highway-30. During the inspection, he expressed his displeasure over the slow pace of construction work and the delay in the project.
He reprimanded the officials present at the spot and the representatives of the construction agency and said that the progress of the work as per the contract is not satisfactory. During this time, he had given instructions to take action against the contractor as per rules and issue notice.
Railway overbridge is being built at a cost of more than 69 crores
This four-lane railway overbridge is being constructed in Keshalur area of Bastar district at a cost of approximately Rs 69 crore 36 lakh. This project has been started with the aim of improving the traffic system in the area and making transportation easier. However, due to the slow pace of construction work, the project is lagging behind its set targets, which has increased the concern of the department.
PWD Notice to Contractor: Question on shortage of manpower and machinery
In the notice issued by the Chief Engineer of the National Highway Zone of the Public Works Department to the construction agency M/s Ashok Kumar Mittal, it has been said that despite the work site being available, adequate manpower, material and machinery were not arranged. According to the notice, the time-bound targets set for various phases of the construction work have not been achieved. The department also said that the actual progress of work at the site was far behind the approved construction schedule and scheduled milestones.
The pace of construction did not improve even after several warnings
The department has mentioned in its notice that the progress of the project has been regularly reviewed. Instructions were given several times to speed up the construction work and notices were issued earlier also, but despite this the expected improvement in the pace of work was not seen. The department says that despite repeated warnings and instructions, the construction agency has failed to complete the work at the prescribed pace.
Contract Action Warning: If work is not completed on time, strict action will be taken
The Public Works Department has said in the notice that Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao had expressed serious concern over the extremely slow progress of the project during the inspection and had given instructions to take immediate action as per the provisions of the contract. The Chief Engineer has directed the contractor to immediately arrange for adequate number of workers, machinery, construction material and other necessary resources and take all necessary steps to complete the project within the stipulated time. The department has clearly warned that if there is no immediate and significant improvement in the progress of the construction work, then strict action will be taken against the contractor as per the terms of the contract.
