Chennai weather: City to sizzle above 100°F; IMD issues heat alert

Chennai: The Chennai Meteorological Centre has warned that temperatures in Chennai will exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit and tomorrow and day after tomorrow, April 16 and 17 respectively, advising residents to stay safe. An atmospheric trough lies at an altitude of approximately 0.9 kilometers, extending from Southeast Madhya Pradesh to the Gulf of Mannar, passing through Vidarbha, Marathwada, North Interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

From April 15 to April 21, light rain is likely to occur at one or two places in the districts along the Western Ghats, the coastal areas of the Delta districts, Ramanathapuram district, and the Karaikal region. Dry weather is likely to prevail across the rest of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Tamil Nadu weather

In the interior districts of Tamil Nadu, maximum temperatures may gradually rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius at a few isolated places from April 15 to April 19, and may be 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal. In Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, maximum temperatures are likely to remain close to normal levels, with little likelihood of any significant change.

Due to the combination of high temperatures and high humidity, uncomfortable conditions may prevail at one or two places in Coastal Tamil Nadu, as well as in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions.

Chennai Weather

For Chennai today and tomorrow, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy. Maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 37 to 38 degrees Celsius (98.6 to 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit), while minimum temperatures are expected to be around 28 degrees Celsius.
