Chennai to face uncomfortable conditions for next two days as temperatures to cross 100°F: IMD

Chennai: The Meteorological Centre has predicted that conditions in Chennai may be uncomfortable for the next two days, as high temperatures and high humidity are expected to prevail. The Centre has warned that maximum temperatures in the interior districts of Tamil Nadu could rise above normal levels for the next five days.

In a press release issued regarding this, the Centre stated that light rain is likely to occur over the next five days in the districts along the Western Ghats, the coastal areas of the Delta districts, as well as in the Ramanathapuram and Karaikal regions.

The Centre has predicted that maximum temperatures in the interior districts of Tamil Nadu could gradually rise by up to 3 degrees Celsius above normal levels. Consequently, the combination of high temperatures and high humidity may create uncomfortable conditions in several parts of the state.

With regard to Chennai, the Meteorological Centre has warned that the sky will remain partly cloudy for the next two days, and maximum temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The Centre has reiterated its prediction that conditions in Chennai may be uncomfortable over the next two days due to the prevalence of high temperatures and high humidity.

For today, April 17, 2026, the sky will remain partly cloudy. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 37 to 38 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are likely to be around 28 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Centre has indicated that the combination of high temperatures and high humidity may lead to uncomfortable conditions.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours.
