Mamata Banerjee’s government seems to be surrounded on the allegation of stripping and beating a woman in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. There is uproar in the state politics over this. The National Commission for Women has condemned this and directed to submit a report. On the other hand, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has targeted Mamata Banerjee’s government on the incident of stripping and beating a woman in Cooch Behar.
He said that attacks on women, irrespective of their caste, are unacceptable. Elections have been held, results have been declared and the ruling party has won the maximum number of seats in the state, so why is the government resorting to violence in the state? Nowhere in the country are we seeing such cases as have been seen in Bengal after the elections? No one has the right to commit violence against women.
Earlier, there were allegations of atrocities against women in Sandeshkhali in the state and BJP had fiercely attacked Mamata Banerjee’s government over this. At the same time, an incident of a young man and woman being beaten up in public took place in Chopra of North Dinajpur.
Mamata surrounded on the issue of women atrocities
The victim had alleged that one of the women grabbed her hair. The other woman tore my blouse and then took it off. I was wearing a saaya, which was later taken off. Then I was dragged for a kilometer. They were taken around. According to the woman, this is not a family dispute.
The victim woman says that she is a BJP worker. She was attacked by Trinamool workers. She was discharged from the hospital on Friday. BJP leaders gave shelter to the woman. She is unable to go home due to fear and now the Congress leader has targeted Mamata Banerjee’s government over this.
Police action on BJP’s allegation
On the other hand, the police recorded the statement of the victim on Sunday morning. It is alleged that even after so much time, the police did not record the statement of the victim. On Saturday, BJP leader Agnimitra Pal met the victim. On Sunday morning, the victim reached the police station to record her statement. The statement was recorded at the Kotwali Mahila police station. The BJP delegation went and expressed its anger as to why the statement had not been recorded till now.
The additional superintendent of police said that the woman was having some family problems. Within 24 hours of filing the FIR, 7 people were arrested. The search for the remaining 3 people in the FIR is ongoing. The police chief said that the victim’s statement was recorded only after the medical examination. But there is no political or communal reason behind this. But this is spreading on social media.
