The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told a Delhi court on Monday that Najeeb Ahmed, an alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), allegedly missing on 15 October 2016, refused to undergo treatment at Safdarjung Hospital. Ahmed was allegedly attacked by students associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
The CBI argued during his closure report before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Jyoti Maheshwari and a debate on the protest petition filed by Ahmed’s mother Fatima Nafees.
What did the CBI say?
The Central Investigation Agency said that the statements of the hospital doctors and medical attendants were not taken due to lack of documents showing that Najib Ahmed goes to the hospital. The investigating officer claimed that Ahmed was advised to conduct an MLC (Medico-Legal case) on going to the hospital. However, he went back to the hostel with his friend Mohammad Qasim and did not get any MLC.
Investigating officer summoned
The judge registered arguments and adjourned the hearing of the case till May 9 and ordered the investigating officer to appear on the next date. In October 2018, the CBI stopped the investigation of the case as the agency’s efforts to find Ahmed, a student of Masters in JNU, had no result.
CBI filed closure report
After getting permission from the Delhi High Court, the agency filed its closure report before the court in the case. Najeeb Ahmed went missing from Mahi-Mandvi hostel in JNU on 15 October 2016. A night before this, he was allegedly clashed with some students associated with ABVP. Nafees Ahmed’s lawyer had argued before the court that this is a ‘political matter’ and ‘CBI has bowed to the pressure of its bosses. The case was investigated by the Delhi Police but later it was handed over to the CBI.
