CBFC: Sunny Deol’s ‘Suryaa’ Not Submitted for Certification Amidst IMA’s Call for Review

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has clarified that Sunny Deol’s upcoming film, ‘Suryaa Ant Se Aarambh Tak’, has not yet been submitted for certification.

This statement comes after the Indian Medical Association (IMA) raised significant concerns with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting regarding the film’s promotional content.

In a letter to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the IMA expressed serious apprehension about the movie’s alleged portrayal of corruption within the healthcare sector and the depiction of violence against medical professionals. The association fears such content could erode public trust and endanger healthcare workers.

The IMA highlighted that the film’s teasers might create a misleading impression that corruption and unethical practices are rampant in the medical fraternity. While acknowledging that individual misconduct should be addressed, the IMA stressed that the actions of a few should not tarnish the reputation of dedicated doctors.

Concerns were also raised about scenes showing physical assaults on medical staff, especially if presented as justified or heroic. The IMA believes such portrayals risk normalizing violence against healthcare providers, who already face significant safety challenges. The association urged the I&B Ministry to impartially review the film’s content and requested corrective measures from the filmmakers. They also suggested a ban if legally warranted. The film, starring Sunny Deol, Ravi Kishan, and others, is slated for a November 20 release.
