The long wait for tennis fans is set to end later this month as Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed his return date to tennis after a four-month absence from the sport due to a wrist injury, which saw him miss the chance to win the French Open and Wimbledon for the third time in his career, respectively.
However, the 23-year-old will play the year’s final major event, he has now confirmed.
In a post in collaboration with football content creator Fabrizio Romano on Instagram, Alcaraz confirmed that he will make a comeback at the 2026 US Open, where he will be aiming to defend the men’s singles trophy. “HERE WE GO! Carlos Alcaraz will return to the tour at the US Open after spending four months sidelined with a right wrist injury.Ready to come back,” said the post. ‘Here we go,’ which is Fabrizio’s popular catchphrase, wrote Alcaraz on Instagram on X
Alcaraz was last seen in action on 14th April during the Barcelona Open against Otto Virtanen at the Pista Rafael Nadal on the Real Club de Tennis Barcelona. While he won the Round of 32 clash in straight sets (6-5, 6-2), he was seen struggling and received medical attention for his wrist. He pulled out of the competition the following day and has not played.
The Men’s Singles at the US Open will kick off on 30th August, with the final scheduled on 13th September at the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium. The Spaniard’s first major title came at this venue in 2022, and he also won the 2025 edition after beating arch-rival Jannik Sinner in the final.
Alcaraz’s last appearance in a Grand Slam was the 2026 Australian Open, where he beat Novak Djokovic to clinch the trophy for the first time in his career. As a result, he also completed a career Grand Slam (winning all four majors) and became the youngest player in tennis history across both the amateur and Open Era to achieve the feat.
The World No. 2 could also make a comeback earlier if he decides to play in the mixed doubles, which will take place a week earlier at Flushing Meadows, starting on August 24. The Spanish star played in the event last year with Emma Raducanu. There is speculation that Alcaraz could enter the competition again with three wildcard spots still remaining. Notably, 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic is teaming up with WTA World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka this year.
