Television actor Vibhav Roy has opened up about the professional path he might have followed if he had not chosen acting. Known for his work in shows including Gustakh Dil, Doli Armaano Ki, Kuch Toh Hai Tere Mere Darmiyaan and Shaitani Rasmein, Roy revealed that his academic and professional background was rooted in finance rather than entertainment.
From Chartered Accountancy to Television
Roy said that, professionally, he was qualified to build a career in accounting and corporate finance. He graduated from Monash University and spent some time working in Australia before returning to India. Had he remained in the same field, he believes his career could have progressed toward corporate finance or investment banking.
The actor described himself as a chartered accountant “on paper,” highlighting the contrast between his formal qualifications and the profession he eventually chose. His return to India marked an important turning point, as he decided to explore acting instead of continuing along the conventional corporate route.
Acting Was Always on His Mind
Despite having a stable professional option available, Roy said the desire to become an actor had been present for a long time. According to him, choosing finance might have provided stability, but the thought of acting would probably have remained with him.
He explained that he did not want to look back later in life and wonder what might have happened if he had pursued his creative ambitions. For Roy, taking a genuine chance on acting was a way of addressing that possibility rather than allowing the question of “what if” to remain unanswered.
Choosing Purpose Over Professional Stability
Roy also acknowledged that practical considerations would have mattered had he continued working in finance. However, he ultimately viewed his career decision as a choice between financial security and personal fulfilment.
He said that some decisions are made to support everyday necessities, while others are driven by what gives a person a sense of purpose. In his case, he feels fortunate that he took the risk of pursuing acting and found a career that fulfilled his creative aspirations.
Making the Move From Television to Films
Roy began his acting career in television and worked in the medium for around three years before receiving an opportunity in films. One of his notable breaks came with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama Padmaavat, where he played the character Itaat Khan.
The film gave Roy an opportunity to work in a large-scale production alongside an established cast and crew. His appearance in the movie became another significant chapter in his acting career after his television work.
Work Beyond Padmaavat
Roy also appeared in Lashtam Pashtam, a film that was released in 2018. In the movie, he portrayed the character Fahd Khan, adding another film credit to his growing body of work.
