BCCI had recently announced Team India for the Australia tour. Mohammed Shami was expected to return on this round. But the board surprised everyone by keeping him out of the squad. Many new players got a chance in the 18-member squad. Apart from 4 fast bowlers, 3 pacers were kept in reserve. But Shami, who was rehabbing at the National Cricket Academy, could not make it even as a ‘subject to fitness’. Fans were very sad to see him not in the team but now a big update has come out regarding him. Shami can still be sent to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. For this they have to fulfill just one condition.
This is the challenge in front of Shami
If Indian Express report is to be believed, Mohammed Shami can still be sent on Australia tour. But before this he has the challenge of proving his fitness. Shami Gherlu plays for Bengal in domestic cricket. The coach of this team, Lakshmi Ratan Shukla has revealed that after Diwali, he can be seen playing two matches in Ranji Trophy.
According to the report, if Shami is successful in proving his fitness condition during this period, then he can be sent on Australia tour. The Indian team currently has to play one more test match against New Zealand. The players will leave for Australia two days after this match to be held in Mumbai from 1 to 5 November. During this period, Shami will not go with the team and will participate in Ranji Trophy.
Rohit had said this on his return
It has been almost 11 months since Mohammed Shami played any competitive cricket. He played his last match in the ODI World Cup on 19 November 2023 against Australia. Since then he has been out of the team due to ankle injury. He also underwent surgery this year and now he is working on his fitness in NCA. However, he has claimed that he is bowling with full runup.
The board was in no mood to do anything hasty, so they kept him out of the team. Let us tell you that earlier he was going to make a comeback against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Meanwhile, his knee got swollen, due to which his return was delayed. Captain Rohit Sharma has also said that he wants to see Shami 100 percent fit. He does not want to take him to Australia with half his fitness.
