The incident took place in Mumbai where four people of the same family died after eating biryani and watermelon. At present, it is suspected that this case may be related to food poisoning, however, the exact information about the death will be available only after the post mortem report comes. 9 people of this family living in Paydhuni area of Mumbai had eaten biryani at 10 pm. After that, at around 1.30 in the night, four people also ate watermelon. After this, their health deteriorated and all four died one by one in the hospital.

After this incident, a question is coming in people’s mind whether this has happened due to eating watermelon and biryani. Is food poisoning the cause of people’s death? Let us know about this from experts.

Does eating biryani and watermelon cause death?

Dr Ajit Jain, Associate Professor at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital It is said that the real cause of death will be known only after the post mortem report comes, but it is not that eating biryani and then watermelon can be the cause of death. Eating these things together or after a gap of a few hours can cause death. This is not possible. This case is suspected to be due to keeping these things in the open and resulting in food poisoning.

According to Dr. Jain, when food items are kept in the open for several hours, dangerous bacteria can grow in them. Be it fruits, biryani or any other food, keeping them in the open for hours causes bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella Enteritidis and Escherichia coli to grow. All these bacteria are very dangerous. When a person eats such things, they enter the stomach and can cause anything from food poisoning to sepsis.

How can food poisoning become the cause of death?

Dr. Deepak Kumar, former resident at Safdarjung Hospital It is said that vomiting and diarrhea are considered normal due to food poisoning, but in some cases it can prove fatal. If some people vomit repeatedly, it causes dehydration in the body. Along with this, electrolytes can decrease rapidly. Their reduction has a direct impact on BP. Blood pressure can drop rapidly to below 50. In this situation, a shock-like condition occurs, which can be fatal.

Dr. Deepak says that it can also cause sepsis. This happens when bacteria start spreading in the blood and sepsis occurs in the blood. Sepsis is very dangerous. This can also cause death.

Do not eat things kept in the open

Dr. Jain says that never eat things kept in the open. Especially not in this season. If you have cut any fruit, eat it immediately. Similarly, eat biryani or any vegetable and rice within half an hour of cooking. If for some reason you have to eat after 2 hours, then keep them covered. This will reduce the possibility of bacteria growing in food items.
