India is all set to host the for the second time. The first time India held the event was in 2009 in Hyderabad.
The BWF World Championships 2026 will be held from August 17 to 23 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.
A total of 377 players from 52 countries will compete at the Delhi Worlds across five disciplines, promising high-voltage competition.
India has also fielded a strong 17-member team for the Championships across men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles categories.
Since the start of the World Championships, 11 Indian shuttlers have won 15 medals, with being the most successful with five medals, including a gold medal at the 2019 World Championships in Basel.
BWF World Championships 2026: Venue and Schedule
The matches of the BWF World Championships 2026 will be held from August 17 to August 23, 2026.
Venue: Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi
August 17: The tournament begins with the Round of 64 in men’s and women’s singles, along with the Round of 48 in men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
August 18: The remaining Round of 64 matches in men’s and women’s singles will be played, alongside further action in men’s and women’s doubles and the Round of 48 in mixed doubles.
August 19: Round of 32 matches across all five disciplines.
August 20: Round of 16 matches across men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
August 21: Quarter-finals across all five events.
August 22: Semi-finals across all five events.
August 23: Finals across all five events.
All the matches from August 17 to 22 start at 9 AM Indian Standard Time (IST).
August 23: Finals start at 1 PM IST.
Prize money: How much do BWF World Championships medallists earn?
Despite being a Grade 1 event of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the World Championships offer no cash prize to the winners or medallists. Instead, medallists receive gold, silver and bronze medals, along with 14,500 ranking points – the highest tier available in individual badminton competition, matching the reward given at the Olympic Games.
