After the bulldozer action on the office of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, BJP has called it an action against illegal construction. BJP President Sameek Bhattacharya said that the government is taking the decision after examining the documents. At the same time, the war of words between the leaders has also intensified.
Action against illegal construction: BJP
Kolkata (West Bengal) [भारत]July 19 (ANI): After the demolition of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee’s party office, West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Sameek Bhattacharya has supported the administrative action, saying the government is strictly targeting “unauthorized constructions”.
Speaking to ANI on the demolition drive, Bhattacharya stressed that the decision was taken after thorough verification of all legal records. The West Bengal BJP chief said, “The government is demolishing unauthorized constructions. The government has taken its decisions after examining all the documents.”
Bhattacharya further said that anyone aggrieved by this action can seek legal help, adding, “If anyone feels that something is wrong, they can approach the court.”
Earlier, an anti-encroachment drive was conducted amid tight security at the office of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee in Amtala, officials said.
Saumitra Khan’s taunt on Abhishek
Meanwhile, taking a sharp dig at Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee’s recent comments, BJP leader and Union Minister Soumitra Khan on Saturday claimed that Banerjee’s political future within the TMC is bleak, and suggested that she should leave the party.
Likening Banerjee’s statement to ‘the departure of the soul from the body’, Khan remarked that the TMC leader looked like a loser and had missed the opportunity to climb up in his party years ago. He said, “There is a saying in Bengal: When the soul leaves the body and finds peace, and we go to the cremation ground, chanting ‘Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna…’.” Abhishek Banerjee spoke in the same tone today. If he had said this in 2018, perhaps he too would have been the chief minister representing TMC… I am telling you this: You will not become an MLA or an MP. You will make a good jailer; you will spend a lot of time inside the jail. We will be comfortable. We may come to meet you sometimes, although we would never want to leave TMC, because the longer you stay in TMC, the more the BJP will grow.”
Abhishek Banerjee’s challenge to the turncoats
Earlier, in a major political challenge on Saturday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee challenged those who left the party to return to party supremo Mamata Banerjee’s camp and promised that if they do so, he will resign from his post within an hour.
Abhishek Banerjee launched a scathing attack on those who left the party and challenged them to come back to the party, alleging that they had made a “deal” with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speaking to reporters here, Banerjee hit back at critics trying to blame her for the party’s previous election defeats, and pointed to TMC’s stupendous success in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where the party secured 29 seats in West Bengal.
Banerjee said, “This is the BJP’s script. To save yourself from the police, you have to speak their language. If you do not abuse Abhishek Banerjee, the police will not spare you. You are safe only if you abuse me.”
Taking a dig at leaders switching sides after the elections, the TMC leader questioned their timing. He said, “Those who are going after the 4th (counting day), why didn’t they go earlier? I was here. The party won the 2024 elections and got 29 seats. If Abhishek Banerjee is responsible for the defeat, then the credit for the victory in 2024 should also go to Abhishek Banerjee. Will you accept this?”
