Buffalo Bills Enhance Defense by Selecting LB Parker and CB Igbinosun in NFL Draft

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) – The Buffalo Bills concentrated on strengthening their defense during the NFL draft on Friday, following their decision to trade out of the first round a day earlier.

Using the 35th overall pick, the Bills selected linebacker T.J. Parker from Clemson and subsequently traded up to acquire cornerback Davison Igbinosun from Ohio State with the 62nd pick, sending the No. 182 pick to Denver in the process.

Profile of T.J. Parker

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 263 pounds, Parker played as a defensive lineman for three years at Clemson before transitioning to outside linebacker in Buffalo’s new 3-4 defensive scheme this season.

Parker recorded impressive statistics during his college career, finishing with 41.5 tackles for loss, 21.5 sacks, and six forced fumbles across 39 games. His standout performance occurred during his sophomore year, where he achieved 19.5 tackles for loss and set a single-season record with six forced fumbles.

“I’m a guy who’s gonna play with attitude, run to the ball, get there as fast as possible and put the pain on somebody,” Parker stated, emphasizing his aggressive style of play. He aims to contribute to a more physical defensive approach.

Profile of Davison Igbinosun

Igbinosun, a three-year starter at Ohio State, transferred from Mississippi and demonstrated his skills with four interceptions and 22 pass breakups over 56 games. He was also part of Ohio State’s national championship team in 2024.

The Bills’ defensive strategy is evolving under new coordinator Jim Leonhard, who is expected to implement a more aggressive style compared to the previous “bend-but-don’t-break” philosophy. Igbinosun’s addition aims to enhance the secondary’s performance.

Bills’ Draft Strategy and Future Needs

The Bills made strategic trades on Thursday, moving down three times to acquire additional draft picks, thus improving their standing in the middle rounds. This approach allows the team to address various roster needs.

Entering the draft with only seven picks, the Bills increased their total to nine, including five among the top 126 selections. This expansion is crucial for a team aiming to remain competitive after reaching the playoffs for seven consecutive seasons without a Super Bowl appearance.

The Bills still have six picks remaining and will start Saturday with the first selection in the fourth round, the 101st overall. Areas needing attention include defensive tackle, safety, and receiver.
