The study included people from both urban and rural populations, leading to results that proved wide-ranging and diverse.

Which drugs were tested?

Three types of two-drug combination pills were tested in the study:

* Amlodipine + Perindopril

* Amlodipine + Indapamide

* Perindopril + Indapamide

All three drugs showed a reduction of approximately 14/8 mm Hg (ambulatory BP) and 30/14 mm Hg (office BP). BP could be controlled to <140/90 mm Hg in 70% of the participants.

According to Professor Ambuj Roy of the Cardiology Department of AIIMS, this one pill is five times more effective than the existing medicines. He said that the combination of both the medicines is not only safe but also more effective. It is given in small quantities, which also reduces harm.
