The Lok Sabha election results of Uttar Pradesh are like an alarm for BJP. The SP-Congress duo has given deep wounds to BJP, which has worried everyone from the organization to the government. Dalit and OBC voters have shifted significantly from BJP, for whose return a political structure is being woven. BJP does not want to repeat the mistake of 2024 in 2027, for which it has started efforts to woo the Dalit community in the state. BJP is also now using the same Constitution as a political weapon, which was made an issue by SP-Congress in the 2024 elections.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had set the narrative of the issue of Constitution and reservation in the 2024 elections. From Rahul to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, during the elections, they were seen saying that if BJP comes to power, it will change the Constitution made by Baba Saheb and will end the reservation given to Dalits and backward classes. This had a tremendous impact on the Dalit community in UP politics and was costly for the BJP. BJP reduced from 62 seats to 33 in UP while SP got 37 seats and Congress got 6 seats.
BJP’s plan to counter the opposition
On the political pitch of Uttar Pradesh, the opposition is still trying to set the narrative against BJP on the basis of reservation and Constitution. BJP has tried to make the Constitution itself a political weapon to counter the opposition. BJP will celebrate Constitution Pride Day in UP from 26 November to 26 January. Through this campaign, BJP has so far organized programs in 58 districts of the state and after completion of the programs in all the districts, it has planned to organize programs at the assembly and mandal levels.
State President of BJP SC-ST Morcha Ramchandra Kanojia told TV-9 Digital that the Constitution is being celebrated as Pride Day for two months from the Constitution Day. Through this program, by placing a copy of the Constitution and the picture of Baba Saheb Ambedkar, they are saying that they will not allow any tampering with the Constitution while BJP is in power. Congress has understood the lies spread during the Lok Sabha elections and is confident that the Constitution is completely safe with Narendra Modi and BJP in government. If the Constitution is in danger then it is from Congress. We are working to spread this message to the people.
PM’s instructions to Chief Ministers of NDA ruled states
UP BJP Organization General Secretary Dharampal Singh told the media that BJP will celebrate Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Nirvana Day on December 6 as Equality Day at all the booths. After this, on December 25, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be celebrated as Good Governance Day at all the booths. National Child Martyrdom Day will be celebrated at the district level on 26th December. On completion of 75 years of the Indian Constitution, BJP is running Constitution Pride Day program for the next two months.
By organizing Constitution Pride Day program among the Dalit community on behalf of BJP Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Morcha, it is being considered as its strategy to counter the issue of threat to the Constitution of the opposition. Recently, in the meeting of the Council of Chief Ministers chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the celebration of Constitution Day was mentioned. He had not only asked the Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of all NDA ruled states to encourage participation on the occasion but also told the NDA allies that it is their responsibility to make people aware of the power of the Indian Constitution, which That is based on a solid foundation.
Effort to create balance of all castes in the new organization
This statement of PM Modi came after the opposition parties tried to create a false narrative that if BJP gets more than 400 seats, it will change the reservation policy enshrined in the Constitution. This also had an impact on BJP’s performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In this way, BJP is trying to establish its presence among the Dalit community. BJP had to suffer the most loss in Uttar Pradesh. This is the reason why BJP is focusing most on Dalit votes in UP only.
BJP has also made a strategy to increase the participation of Dalits and OBCs in the UP organization. In Uttar Pradesh, BJP is in the strategy of creating a strong social engineering through its organization. There is an attempt to create a balance of all castes and classes in the new organization of BJP. Women and Dalits will be given special importance. Recently, in the meeting held in Lucknow, National Co-Election Officer Naresh Bansal said that all castes and classes will be given proper place in the organization. BJP will pay special attention to increasing the participation of Dalits so that they can get proper representation in politics. In this way, BJP is trying to win their trust by ending the distrust that has arisen among the Dalit community.
BJP prepared new leadership and vote bank
The population of Dalit community in Uttar Pradesh is 22 percent. Till 2012 elections, Dalits used to be the vote bank of BSP but since then the Dalit vote has been divided between Jatav and non-Jatav. In 2014, BJP got more than 50 percent votes of Dalits but in 2019 they voted differently. In 2019, Jatavs voted 17 percent for BJP, 71 percent for SP-BSP alliance, 1 percent for Congress and 7 percent for others. The non-Jatav Dalit community voted 48 percent for BJP, 42 percent for SP-BSP alliance, 7 percent for Congress and 3 percent for others. In the 2024 elections, a large part of the Dalit community had gone with the SP and Congress alliance, due to which BJP has to suffer losses.
BJP has created a new leadership and vote bank among the Dalit and tribal communities, which has to be strengthened under the umbrella of Hindutva. For this, BJP has been doing politics of symbols. After the Modi government came to power, first Ramnath Kovind from the Dalit community was made the President and then Draupadi Murmu who came from the tribal community became the President. In every rally, Narendra Modi is talking to the Dalit community about how Congress wants to hand over their reservation to Muslims, but I will not let this happen. In this way, efforts are being made to bring BJP closer to the Dalit community that has slipped away.
PDA formula can create a new challenge for BJP
In Uttar Pradesh, BJP was successful in winning a record 71 seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections 10 years ago and 312 seats in the 2017 assembly elections. But, in 2024 it was reduced to just 33 seats. Due to this, BJP remained away from majority on its own at the Centre. BJP was successful in ending political exile from UP in 2014 in the name of Narendra Modi. Since then, the political graph of BJP has been continuously declining and if this pattern continues, the 2027 assembly elections may increase tension for BJP.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP won 33 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh, its ally RLD won two and Apna Dal (S) one seat. At the same time, India Alliance managed to win 43 seats in Uttar Pradesh, out of which 37 seats were won by SP and six seats by Congress. Apart from this, one seat has been won by independent candidate Chandrashekhar Azad. If we look at the Lok Sabha seats won by the India Alliance, in terms of assembly seats, SP got lead on 183 seats while Congress was ahead on 40 assembly seats. In this way, India Alliance was successful in gaining lead in 223 out of 403 assembly seats of UP.
It is believed that SP is working on its strategy to contest the assembly elections in 2027 on its PDA formula. The coming together of Congress and SP was not considered to be a sign of any major political danger for BJP, but now the results of Lok Sabha elections and the decision to go with the PDA formula of the alliance can create a new challenge for BJP in 2027. . That is why BJP has already become alert and is aggressively engaged in helping the Dalit community.
