Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has already started preparations with full force for the assembly elections to be held in UP in the year 2027. In this connection, BSP supremo Mayawati has once again made many big and shocking changes in the structure of the organization.
This effort of Mayawati is being considered as part of her efforts to re-organize her old and traditional vote bank and breathe new life into the organization.
This time the party has made major organizational changes in 6 important districts of Uttar Pradesh including Gautam Buddha Nagar. In this sequence, Central Coordinator Randhir Singh Beniwal has been given the big responsibility of Saharanpur as well as Moradabad. Apart from this, once again expressing confidence in Naresh Gautam, he has been appointed the District President of Gautam Buddha Nagar.
Along with this, BSP has also fielded many of its old and experienced faces. Former MLC Bhimrao Ambedkar, former minister Gayacharan Dinkar and former MLC Vijay Pratap Singh have been given the command of Kanpur division. On the other hand, former District President Lakhmi Singh, Suraj Pal and Deepak Boudh have been given new responsibilities and have been appointed in-charge of Meerut division. Taking steps on the electoral front, the party has declared Manoj Verma as its official candidate from Akbarpur assembly seat. Party strategists believe that there is an urgent need to strengthen the organization at the grassroots level to prevent senior leaders from joining other parties.
Mayawati’s new formula: Attention to Brahmins and OBCs under social engineering
BSP supremo Mayawati has already given a clear indication that in the coming times, the party will give full representation and attention to the Brahmin and OBC (Other Backward Class) communities in the organization and distribution of tickets. It is being said in the political circles that the purpose of this entire exercise is not only to save our traditional Dalit vote bank before the 2027 elections, but also to strongly prevent grassroots level active leaders from joining other political parties.
If we look at the figures, BSP is continuously losing its support base in the politics of Uttar Pradesh since 2012. The party’s traditional vote bank has largely shifted to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) in the last few elections. Therefore, Mayawati is trying at all costs to make the fort of the organization completely impenetrable and strong just before the great contest of 2027.
Why 2027 Uttar Pradesh elections are very important for BSP
Mayawati, who formed the government with full majority in Uttar Pradesh due to her famous ‘social engineering’ in the 2007 assembly elections, has been continuously marginalized since 2012. After the crushing defeat in the 2012 assembly elections, the party has not been able to re-emerge strongly in UP politics. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the situation was such that BSP could not even open its account.
After this, the party’s performance in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections was also very disappointing and weak. However, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BSP contested the elections in alliance with Samajwadi Party, from which it benefited and won 10 seats. But as soon as the elections were over, this alliance also broke completely. After this, in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, BSP suffered the biggest setback in its history and was reduced to just one seat. Now the elections of 2027 have become the biggest battle for the party to save its political existence. This is the reason why BSP supremo Mayawati does not want to leave any stone unturned in her strategy this time.
