In Kawardha, Chhattisgarh, the Forest Department has arrested 7 accused in the case of poaching of male chital. In an action taken on the information of an informer, meat and tools were seized from the hunters. All the accused have been sent to jail.
Raipur, 04 July 2026/ Under the strong leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, the Government of Chhattisgarh is continuously taking effective steps for the conservation of forests, wildlife and biodiversity. Under the guidance of Forest and Climate Change Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap, special campaigns against illegal hunting are being run by the Forest Department and Chhattisgarh State Forest Development Corporation. Positive results of these campaigns are emerging. In this sequence, Kawardha Project Board has taken major action in the case of illegal hunting of male chital and arrested seven accused. All the accused were sent to jail after being presented in the court.
Planned action on informer’s information
Hunters laid a trap and hunted a male chital of about three years in the forest located at Bhalpahari Beat of Bodla Project area of Forest Development Corporation. After this, preparations were being made to cook its meat and distribute it among others. On the information received from the informer, the Forest Development Corporation team immediately conducted a planned siege and arrested all the seven accused red-handed.
Hunting material and chital meat seized
During the operation, about 500 grams of cooked chital meat, nylon rope, three axes, noose made of steel wire and wood and a blood stained bag were recovered and seized from the possession of the accused. Legal action was taken by registering a case against the accused under various sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
