Dangerous particles are hidden in everything around us. Along with breathing, we are also entering the body with compounds that increase the risk of cancer. A research was conducted to find out their number, the results of which shocked everyone.
How does cancer occur? This element is nothing but microplastic. We are consuming so much plastic every day that you will be shocked. It goes inside the body and blocks the lungs, intestines and arteries. Like any plastic thing clogs the drains. The level of plastic found in the study was not known to us before today. Researchers have said this to be 100 times more than before. How is plastic getting inside?
Plastic particles can be so small that they cannot be seen by the eye. When you keep water or food in a plastic bottle, its microplastic particles stick to the material. Which go inside the body with food. But this study shows that apart from eating and drinking, we are inhaling a lot of plastic.
How was the study?
Scientists from a French university took 16 samples of indoor air from inside their apartment and car. These were then studied with a technique called Raman spectroscopy. Which tells how and how many plastic particles are circulating in the air.
Risk of lung damage
The study found 528 microplastics per cubic meter in apartment air and 2,238 microplastics per cubic meter in car air. Of these, 94 percent of the particles were so small that they could go straight to the lungs and damage them.
People smell so much plastic.
Researchers found that an adult inhales approximately 71 thousand microplastic particles in a day. Out of which 68 thousand are as big as sub-10 micrometers. This is 100 times more than previous estimates.
Danger of hundreds of diseases
Such small particles of plastic can collect in every part of the body. Due to which the function of cells and tissues becomes useless. In many researches, they have been linked to hundreds of diseases like cancer, stroke, poor fertility etc.
