A day before the last date for filing nominations for Maharashtra Assembly elections, Shiv Sena (UBT) has suffered a major setback. The party’s declared candidate Kishanchand Tanwani has withdrawn his name just hours after filing his nomination on Monday. Shiv Sena (UBT) had given ticket to Tanwani from Sambhajinagar Central seat. Kishanchand Tanwani has withdrawn his name and said that he will support Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Sambhajinagar Central seat is considered the stronghold of Shiv Sena. On this seat, Shiv Sena Shinde faction, which is part of the NDA alliance, has again fielded sitting MLA Pradeep Jaiswal. Now after the withdrawal of Kishan Tanwani’s name, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena will have to field another candidate. Shiv Sena (UBT) will have to take this decision soon. The last date for filing nominations for Maharashtra Assembly elections is tomorrow i.e. Tuesday.
Tanwani told why he withdrew his name?
Kishanchand Tanwani has withdrawn his name from Sambhajinagar Central seat of Maharashtra. Along with this, he has announced to support Shinde faction’s candidate Pradeep Jaiswal. He also claimed that Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) will lose the Maharashtra Assembly elections by a huge margin. Tanwani clearly said that he will not let a situation like the 2014 elections happen again. He says that by doing this the votes of Hindus will be divided and the other party will benefit from it.
In the 2014 elections, MIM state president Imtiaz Jaleel had won this seat. Tanwani says that to prevent this from happening this time, he has decided to step back. In 2014, BJP and Shiv Sena had contested elections separately on this seat. He says that AIMIM had won here only because of the division of Hindu votes. In that election, AIMIM got 61,841 votes, BJP got 40,770 votes and Shiv Sena got 41,861 votes. Tanwani had contested the elections on BJP ticket.
Shiv Sena won the 2019 elections
At the same time, BJP and Shiv Sena were in alliance in the 2019 assembly elections. Since it was a stronghold of Shiv Sena, BJP gave this seat to him, which also benefited him. Shiv Sena’s Pradeep Jaiswal won. He defeated AIMIM candidate Nasir Siddiqui. In this election, Pradeep Jaiswal got 82,217 votes while AIMIM got 68,325 votes.
