There is a legend associated with this temple
Information about this temple comes from Skandapuran. It is said that Tarakasura performed very rigorous penance for Lord Shiva, due to which Lord Bholenath was pleased and asked the demon to ask for the desired boon. The demon demanded that only the 6-day-old son of Lord Shiva could kill him. Bholenath gave him a boon. After getting the boon, Tarakasura started spreading terror everywhere. Everyone from Gods and Goddesses to sages and sages were worried. Troubled by this, all the gods and sages approached Mahadev and told him their dilemma. After this, Kartikeya killed Tarakasura at the age of just 6 days. But when Kartikeya came to know that Tarakasur was a devotee of Bholenath, he was quite disappointed. Lord Vishnu told Kartikeya that to get rid of this sin he should build a Shiva temple at the place where the demon was killed. Only after this, all the gods together established Vishwanandak Pillar at Mahisagar Sangam Tirtha, which is today known as Stambheshwar Tirtha.
