In Bengaluru, a husband murdered his wife, who was remarrying on the insistence of her family. Both of them had a secret marriage. Investigation revealed that the accused was already married.
Bengaluru: A surprising case has come to light from Bengaluru. Here a husband strangled his own wife to death because she was going to remarry on the insistence of her family. This incident happened on Friday in Tigalarpalya area. The deceased girl has been identified as Bhavani (22), who was a resident of Tulsinagar in Tigalarapalya. On the complaint of Bhavani’s father Srinivas, the police have registered a case and arrested the accused auto driver Chandrashekhar alias Chandan.
Police said Bhavani was originally from Magadi taluk and lived in a rented house in Tigalarpalya. She worked in a nearby mobile shop. His parents used to visit him once a week. Chandrashekhar also lived in Tigalarpalya and used to drive an auto. For the last one year, Bhavani used to take Chandan’s auto to go to work. During this time, both of them became friends and then fell in love.
Had a secret marriage in the temple
A few months ago, both of them got married secretly in a temple, but were living separately. He did not tell anything about this to his family members. However, Chandan would often come to Bhavani’s house and would stay for a day or two and leave.
The family members were arranging a second marriage.
Bhavani’s family had no knowledge about this secret marriage. But he came to know that his daughter was in love with a boy. So he started preparations to fix Bhavani’s marriage somewhere else. Due to pressure from family members, Bhavani also agreed for second marriage. When Chandrashekhar came to know about this, he became furious. He quarreled with Bhavani and said, “We are married, then how can you marry again?” He also assaulted Bhavani. Frightened by all this, Bhavani kept the matter of her marriage with Chandan hidden from her family. But she definitely told her family that Chandan was pressurizing her not to marry and was threatening to kill her.
Drama of suicide by drinking poison
On the morning of 13th June, Chandan again reached Bhavani’s house and started pressurizing her not to marry again. When Bhavani refused, he brought a bottle of poison and said let us both drink and die. Bhavani refused to commit suicide. After this, the accused forced her to drink more poison and then strangulated her to death. Later, he himself drank some poison and spilled some on himself to make it look like a suicide.

Just before this incident, Chandan had posted pictures of the temple wedding on his Instagram story. Bhavani’s elder mother (aunt) saw this story. He immediately called Bhavani’s father Srinivas and told him the whole story and also sent the link of the video. Hearing this, Srinivas got scared and called his daughter, but the phone did not answer. When suspicious, Srinivas called the landlord. When the landlord went to Bhavani’s room, the door was locked from inside. Despite calling a lot, no response came from inside. After this Srinivas immediately reached Bengaluru and informed the police. When the police broke the door, everyone was shocked to see the scene inside. Police officials said that a case of murder had come to light. The police admitted Chandan, who was lying in an ill condition, to a nearby hospital. When he was interrogated after his recovery, he confessed to the murder. Investigation has also revealed that accused Chandan is already married and has a child.
