A ruckus broke out in West Bengal following the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Dharnipur area of Falakata block of Alipurduar district.
The incident angered the mob that beat the accused to death and set his house on fire.
The body of the accused has been sent for the postmertem and police officials in large numbers have been deployed in the area to control the situation.
The incident came to light after the accused, who is a resident of the same area, was spotted with blood in his hands when he was coming back after throwing the victim’s body in the pond.
According to a report by Jagran.com, the girl went missing in the morning and her family members were looking for her. When people saw blood on the hands of the accused, they got suspicious and took him to his house. As they reached his house, they saw the clothes of the six-year-old soaked in blood. He confessed to the crime and revealed that he raped and killed the girl.
The accused was destroying evidence by throwing the body in the pond. When people heard this, it infuriated them and they started thrashing him.
The police reached the spot after getting the information and took him to the hospital where doctors declared him dead. The body of the girl has been recovered from the pond and sent for post-mortem.
The rape and murder of the minor come at a time when Bengal is already protested over the rape and murder of a 30-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. In the latest update in the case, the junior doctors on Friday said that they are not happy with the pace of the CBI probe and will hold rallies further.
“We will take out a rally in Kolkata on November 9 from College Square to Esplanade along with members of civil society organisations. There will be similar rallies in different parts of West Bengal,” Forum spokesperson Debashis Halder told a press meet at RG Kar Hospital.
A mass convention is also set to be held on November 9 at Rani Rashmoni Avenue in the Esplanade area, demanding justice for the murdered medic, according to a report by PTI.
