YSRCP has alleged that Andhra’s coalition government is imposing restrictions on the tours of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, fearing his growing popularity. The party said the government was hatching a conspiracy and using the police to stop leaders from meeting Jagan.
The YSRCP on Thursday alleged that the coalition government in Andhra Pradesh is imposing severe restrictions on the tours of party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as it is “unable to tolerate his growing public support”.
Accusations of conspiracy and restrictions on the government
According to a release, party spokespersons Putha Siva Shankar, Aarey Shyamala and Mancha Nagamalliswari alleged that whenever Jagan steps out to meet people, the government starts hatching a conspiracy and uses police restrictions, advance notices and house arrest to prevent party leaders and workers from reaching him. He claimed that the government limited YS Jagan’s convoy to eight vehicles and issued notices to YSRCP leaders ahead of his visit to Srikakulam to meet former minister Dr Sidiri Appalaraju in jail.
“Jagan was on his way to support Appalaraju, who was arrested in an illegal case, when a simple road accident was portrayed as an assassination attempt by the government and its supporting media.”
‘Naidu was given complete freedom while in opposition’
The leaders questioned why the government was afraid of a former chief minister exercising his constitutional right to travel across the state. He reminded that when “CM Chandrababu Naidu was the leader of the opposition, the YS Jagan government had allowed him to move around freely despite his inflammatory speeches and attacks by TDP workers.”
Allegations of harassment to hide administrative failures
He said that YS Jagan’s programs during the last two years have been peaceful and YSRCP has always cooperated with the police. He further alleged that despite this, the government is sending TDP workers to create provocation while failing to provide proper security to the opposition leader.
The party claimed that illegal arrests and false cases were being used to hide administrative failures and target BC leaders who questioned the government.
“No barricade, notice or ban can separate YS Jagan from the people.”
Demand for proper security and stop harassment
He demanded stronger police protection for his visits and urged the government to stop political harassment, allow the public to visit him freely and focus on implementing its election promises.
