Balaghat Lok Sabha seat, known as the mineral deposit of Madhya Pradesh, is famous for its culture and natural treasures in the entire state. This Lok Sabha seat is mostly inhabited by people from the tribal community who are very aware of their culture. The boundaries of this district are connected to Chhattisgarh on one side and Maharashtra on the other side, hence the influence of politics of both these states can be seen on this Lok Sabha seat. The influence of the culture of these two neighboring states can be clearly seen on the speech and lifestyle here.
Kanha Tiger Reserve is also an important part of this Lok Sabha. Tiger census was conducted here in 2023 in which their number was found to be 129. It is quite good in comparison to any other tiger reserve. On one hand, forests and tiger reserve are enhancing the glory of Balaghat, while on the other hand, there is natural treasure in abundance here. There are many mines of manganese, copper, bauxite, kyanite, marble, dolomite and limestone which are very important. It is these mines that make Madhya Pradesh ahead of other states in all these areas.
Most of Balaghat district is filled with forests, it is situated on the banks of Bainganga river. Most of the agricultural land here is irrigated by this river. There is very advanced agriculture here. In which mostly paddy and bamboo are cultivated. There is a very interesting story behind the name of this city. Actually, the name of this city was initially 12 Ghats. The reason behind this is said to be that this city was situated between twelve ghats. When the names of the cities were being written, the file from here went to Kolkata. There 12 ghats were called Balaghat which was also written later. It was from here that the city got its name Balaghat. This happened during the British rule.
