Eid-Al-Adha 2026: There are many festivals in the Islamic calendar. Eid-ul-Azha i.e. Bakrid is a very holy and important festival in the religion of Islam. Muslims sacrifice goats on this festival. When is Bakrid in India?
This year, the festival of Bakrid is going to be celebrated on 27th May in Saudi Arabia and Middle East i.e. Gulf countries. Bakrid moon was not visible in most parts of the country including Delhi on Sunday evening, but the Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid and prominent Ulemas have officially announced to celebrate this festival on May 28.

According to the Quran, while testing Hazrat Ibrahim, Allah had asked him to sacrifice his most precious thing. Then Hazrat Ibrahim decided that he would sacrifice his only son Hazrat Ismail. According to Islamic beliefs, when Hazrat Ibrahim went to sacrifice his son Ismail, a miracle happened. Allah accepted his passion and replaced his son with a dumba i.e. a lamb. From then onwards the tradition of sacrifice started.

The sacrifice made on the day of Bakrid is considered very special. After sacrifice the meat is divided into 3 parts. The first part is given to the family, the second part to relatives and close ones and the third part to the needy, such as the poor and orphans.
