Bakra Eid 2026: Eid-ul-Azha is considered a very sacred festival in Islam. This is called Bakrid. There is a tradition of sacrifice on Bakrid. This festival is a symbol of Hazrat Ibrahim Alaihissalam’s sacrifice and faith towards Allah. According to the Islamic calendar (Hijri calendar), this holy festival is celebrated on the 10th of Zu al-Hajja, the 12th and last month of the year. This year there is some confusion regarding the festival of Bakrid whether it will be on 27th May or 28th May.
Since, Muslim religious leaders have announced that the festival of Bakrid will be celebrated on 28th May. In such a situation, Bakrid will be celebrated in India on 28th May. The tradition of sacrifice on this day is associated with Hazrat Ibrahim Alaihissalam.
tradition of sacrifice
The festival of Bakrid makes man understand his true faith and dedication towards Allah. On this day, Muslims all over the world offer namaz, donate to the poor and give the message of humanity and equality by making sacrifices. This tradition of sacrifice is said to be related to Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim Alaihissalam. According to Islamic belief, Allah asked for the sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim’s most beloved and only son Hazrat Ismail to test his faith.
symbol of devotion to allah
Hazrat Ibrahim Alaihissalam had full faith in his Allah. Therefore, after receiving the orders of Allah, he agreed to sacrifice his son. Because he knew that Allah would never ask him to sacrifice his son. This was his faith, but to show his devotion to Allah, Hazrat Ibrahim (a.s.) agreed to sacrifice his son. After this, just as he was about to put a knife on his son’s neck, by the order of Allah, the angels placed a dumba (lamb) in place of Ismail. In this way Hazrat Ismail’s life was saved.
This incident is considered the foundation of the tradition of sacrifice in Islam. Since then, every year Muslims sacrifice goat, sheep, camel or bull on this day. By doing this, Muslims remember the dedication that Hazrat Ibrahim (a.s.) had made towards Allah. The meaning of the festival of Bakrid is not only about sacrificing the animal, but this festival also gives the message of renouncing one’s inner evils, ego and greed.
