After a very long time, a film featuring Emraan Hashmi in the lead role has taken a smash start. The movie in discussion is Awarapan 2, the sequel to the cult classic Awarapan. The first film was a box office flop, but over time, it gained cult status among the audience.
The second film had superb hype right from the start, and it reflected in the opening. Despite the below-par marketing campaign, Awarapan 2 took a flying start at the box office. As per early estimates, the romantic action drama earned Rs. 21 crores nett.
Initially, trade predicted a double-digit opening, and based on the momentum, the projections were revised to Rs. 15 crores. However, the movie has even surpassed the most optimistic industry projections by a significant margin.
This is the biggest-ever opener for Emraan Hashmi, and Awarapan 2 crossed the lifetime numbers of Awarapan in one day flat. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 features Disha Patani as the female lead.
