Chaturmas 2026: In Sanatan Dharma, those four months are considered very special, in which Lord Vishnu, the sustainer of the world, frees himself from the responsibility of worldly affairs and goes into Yoga Nidra. These months have been called the time of Chaturmas in the scriptures. This is considered to be the time of restraint, dedication, devotion, self-purification and spiritual progress. No auspicious work is done in these four months.
Every year, on the day of Devshayani Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month, Lord Vishnu goes into Yoga Nidra. This year Devshayani Ekadashi is going to be celebrated on 25th July. Chaturmas will start from this day and with this, all the auspicious and auspicious activities like marriage, engagement, housewarming, naming ceremony, mundan and upanayan rituals will be banned for four months. When will auspicious work happen again after Chaturmas?
According to astrological calculations, after July 12, marriages, sacred thread i.e. Upanayana Sanskar and all other auspicious activities will come to a halt. After the beginning of Chaturmas, auspicious and auspicious works will start from Devotthan Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. This Ekadashi is also called Devuthani Ekadashi. According to Drik Panchang, this year Devuthani Ekadashi will be celebrated on 20th November. On this day, Lord Vishnu will wake up from four months of Yoga Nidra and take charge of the world again.
Auspicious time for marriage and upanayana after Chaturmas
Those houses where marriage is going on will have to wait till 22nd November after the start of Chaturmas. The first marriage auspicious time after Chaturmas is on 22nd November. The auspicious days for marriage are 22, 25, 26 and 30 in November and 4, 6, 9, 10, 11 and 14 in December. After Chaturmas, now the auspicious time for Upanayana Sanskar is in February next year. The auspicious time for Upanayana starts from 09th February next year. There will be auspicious times for this from March, April, May to July.
