Kolkata: In West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee was attacked by an angry mob. This incident happened when he had come to meet the families of the victims of post-poll violence. The angry mob not only pushed them but also threw stones, shoes and eggs at them.
Attack with stones, shoes and eggs
The incident occurred in Sonarpur area of South 24 Parganas district. When MP Abhishek Banerjee’s convoy reached there, local protesters surrounded him. According to eyewitnesses, suddenly some people started throwing stones, shoes and eggs towards the TMC MP. Not only this, some people also tried to raise their hands and kick him.
A group of local women present there directly surrounded Abhishek Banerjee and started pushing him. The women were loudly shouting slogans of “thief, thief”. She was demanding answers from Banerjee regarding the political violence that took place in the state after the recent assembly elections. The irony is that the MPs had come there to console the family of a TMC worker killed in the violence, but they themselves had to face immense anger from the people.
As soon as the situation started getting out of control, Abhishek Banerjee’s security personnel immediately came into action. They made Abhishek wear a helmet and formed a human chain to safely take him out of the angry crowd and take him to his car.
