BJP candidate Akshay Cardile has almost assured victory in Rahuri seat of Maharashtra with a huge lead. The lead of more than 50,000 votes has made the contest one-sided. BJP workers started celebrating by bursting crackers outside the counting centre. The seat had fallen vacant after the demise of the former MLA, and the party had fielded his son. There is suspense on Baramati seat also, where NCP candidate Sunetra Pawar is leading. This contest is considered very important in Ajit Pawar’s sphere of influence.
Tough fight in Karnataka, Congress countered
BJP was initially ahead in both the seats of Karnataka, but Congress has made a strong comeback and gained lead in Davangere South seat.
