BJP has assured all possible help to the people affected by the devastating floods in Dhemaji, Assam. The party said that in this hour of crisis, the Central and State governments are standing with the people and all necessary steps are being taken for relief, rescue and rehabilitation.
Guwahati (Assam) [भारत]June 29 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday reiterated that the people of Assam will never be alone in this hour of crisis. Under the leadership of the Central and Assam governments, all possible measures are being taken to ensure safety, relief and rehabilitation of the people affected by the devastating floods in Dhemaji district.
According to an official statement issued by the party, the unprecedented floods in Arunachal Pradesh caused by incessant rains and heavy flow of water from upper areas have severely affected vast areas of Jonai, Sisiborgaon, Dhemaji and Gogamukh revenue areas. The situation has become particularly serious in Simenmukh, Anand Nagar, Silapathar, Jonai and many surrounding areas of Jonai assembly constituency.
In a press statement issued from the BJP Assam state headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, state media panelist Priyanka Tamuli said, “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the people of Assam can rest assured that they will never be abandoned in this hour of crisis. The BJP government has always stood with the people, continues to stand with them and will continue to stand firmly with them in the days to come.”
Direct monitoring of central and state government
Reflecting the Central Government’s unwavering commitment towards Assam, Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally reviewed the flood situation over telephone and assured the State Government of the Centre’s full support and all possible assistance. This clearly reflects the deep concern, sensitivity and unwavering commitment of the Government of India towards the welfare of the people of Assam during this humanitarian crisis.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is continuously monitoring the changing situation and has directed all concerned departments to expedite rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations without any delay.
Announcement of relief and compensation
Acting on the instructions of the Chief Minister, Assam Cabinet Ministers Keshav Mahanta and Sushant Borgohain immediately visited the flood-hit areas of Dhemaji district. During his visit, Keshav Mahant assured the affected families that financial assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh would be given to those whose houses were completely destroyed by the floods. He further said that families who have suffered loss of livestock will also be compensated as per the norms set by the government.
Additionally, Lakhimpur parliamentary constituency MP Pradan Barua, Jonai MLA Bhuban Pegu, Dibrugarh MLA Prashant Phukan and Sisiborgaon MLA Jibon Gogoi also visited the flood affected areas to assess the ground situation and interact with the affected residents.
Ministers and elected representatives inspected severely affected locations including Simenmukh and Anand Nagar, reviewed the magnitude of floods, river bank erosion and functioning of relief camps, as well as personally interacted with displaced families to understand their immediate concerns.
Large scale rescue and relief operation
Comprehensive instructions have been issued to the concerned departments to ensure uninterrupted availability of food supply, safe drinking water, medical aid and all other essential services. Rescue operations are being carried out at full speed with the coordinated efforts of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Also, the district administration has further intensified operation of relief camps, distribution of relief material and rehabilitation measures to provide timely assistance to each affected family.
Reiterating the BJP’s unwavering commitment in these challenging times, state media panelist Priyanka Tamuli emphasized that the safety, dignity and welfare of the people of Assam is the government’s top priority. He further said that the coordinated efforts of the Central Government, Assam Government and every dedicated BJP worker are playing an important role in providing relief and restoring hope to the flood affected people.
