Arundhati Choudhary reaches boxing 70kg semifinal, secures India a Commonwealth Games 2026 medal

Indian boxer Arundhati Choudhary progressed to the women’s 70kg semifinals at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow by defeating New Zealand’s Morgan Henderson in the quarterfinal on Wednesday.

Choudhary delivered a composed performance in a closely contested match, narrowly winning the first round 3-2 before gaining control in the second round. Despite Henderson’s aggressive style, the Indian boxer remained patient, using movement and effective punches to win the third round by a 3-1 split decision, securing her victory, according to ESPN. The win guarantees Choudhary a medal as she advances to the semifinals with the opportunity to compete for gold.

Earlier on Wednesday, Sakshi Chaudhary also entered the women’s 51kg semifinals, defeating Northern Ireland’s Caitlyn Fryers with a unanimous 5-0 decision in the quarterfinal, ensuring a medal for India as well.

Sakshi, who returned to the 51kg category after beating top Indian competitors in the trials and came into the Games in strong form, dominated the bout. She won all three rounds by identical 5-0 margins, using movement and accurate punches to keep pressure on Fryers, according to ESPN. She will face Canada’s Amber-Jane Wall in the semifinal on Friday, aiming for a place in the gold medal match.

India has currently won 12 medals at the Games: two gold, seven silver, and three bronze.

Shyla (bronze, women’s shot put F57), and Jhandu Kumar (bronze, para powerlifting).
