Apple cultivation in Jashpur: Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh has long been known for its crop diversity. Farmers here are now rapidly moving towards horticulture and cash crops along with traditional farming. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, the District Administration, NABARD and Horticulture Department are continuously encouraging the farmers for new crops. Farmers of Jashpur are now cultivating tea, litchi, strawberry and pear as well as apple on a large scale. This has increased the income of farmers and strengthened the agriculture-based economy.

Apple Farming in Jashpur: Apple cultivation in 410 acres

Apple production in Jashpur started in the year 2023. Today, apple is being cultivated in about 410 acres of area in the district and about 410 farmers are associated with it. Apple plants planted in Shaila, Chhatauri, Kardana and Chhichli panchayats including Manora and Bagicha development blocks have given good quality fruits this year. Local farmers say that the apples being produced in Jashpur are at par with the apples of Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh in terms of taste and quality. According to Rajesh Gupta, President of Rural Education and Development Society, many farmers of the district are successfully cultivating apples on each acre of their land.

Pear Farming Jashpur: Farmers earn lakhs of rupees from pear production

Pear cultivation is also being done on a large scale in Jashpur district. Pear orchards are spread over an area of ​​about 3,500 acres in the district and more than 3,500 farmers are associated with it. Pear production is taking place on a large scale in areas like Sanna, Pandarapath, Kanwai, Mahua, Sonkyari, Manora, Dhavaipai and Gidha. The pears produced here are sent to many states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha. The annual pear production of the district has reached about 1.75 lakh quintals. Farmers are earning around Rs 1 to 1.5 lakh per acre every year.

Chhattisgarh Horticulture Mission: Farmers are getting training and market

According to officials of the Horticulture Department, under the National Horticulture Mission, farmers are being provided training, technical support and market access facilities. Due to this, farmers are becoming self-reliant and becoming economically stronger through new crop diversity.
