Anti-drug campaign will start in Delhi from December 1, people will be made aware, LG announced

Addiction is a big problem these days. Youth are continuously becoming victims of drug addiction. In such a situation, a big step is being taken in Delhi to deal with the increasing menace of drug abuse. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena announced the launch of a comprehensive anti-drug campaign. This campaign will be started from 1st of next month. Under this initiative, there is a plan to make the capital Delhi drug free in the next three years. People will be made aware through this campaign.

During the 9th review meeting of the State Level Committee Narco Coordination Center (NCoRD), LG Saxena said that apart from the direct social impact of the drug menace in terms of youth health, it also has a broader international aspect due to which drug abuse is a major issue. The trend is increasing. He said that the drug addiction of the country’s youth was used strategically to weaken the country.

Instructions to curb drug trafficking

The LG directed Delhi Police to intensify its efforts to curb drug trafficking and consumption in collaboration with other concerned agencies. During this one-month campaign, the LG has asked Delhi Police and other agencies to thoroughly check at least 200 hostels, 50 colleges, 200 schools, 200 medicine shops, 500 paan shops, all shelter homes, 200 bars and restaurants. Instructed to do and clean them.

Advisory to teachers and parents

Along with this, nodal officers will be designated to ensure drug-free environment at railway stations, all ISBTs and other public premises and wardens will be made accountable for ensuring drug-free hostels in educational institutions. The LG directed that an advisory should be sent to teachers and parents by including the Social Welfare Department. The Social Welfare Department will actively engage with schools and parents to educate them about the dangers of drug abuse and encourage them to keep an eye on the activities of their children.

The identity of the informers will be kept confidential

VK Saxena also asked the Delhi Police to advertise widely and announce attractive rewards for the informers while keeping their identity confidential. He said that slogans, posters and banners against the harmful effects of drugs and substance use will be distributed throughout the country. Should be prominently displayed in the city and in DTC buses, auto-rickshaws and taxis.

Under this campaign, extensive public awareness campaigns will be launched through various channels including television, radio, social media and outdoor advertising.
