Every cricket fan knows Andrew Flintoff, England’s star opener. Be it Test format or ODI, Flintoff has become a trouble-shooter for his team many times. The date was 18 March 2007, when the ODI World Cup was going on. England was to play a match against Canada on this day, but something happened on the last night of this match which became a memorable story. This incident is related to a liquor party when England’s star all-rounder Andrew Flintoff drank so much alcohol that he lost consciousness and became so unconscious that Flintoff could not even play the match.

Its story started from March 16, when England was defeated by New Zealand. This was England’s first match in this tournament, the team could score only 209 runs and lost the match to New Zealand by 6 wickets. He could not even open his account in this match, Shane Bond dismissed him on the very first ball.

Flintoff Drinking

After this match, England’s cricketers had a liquor party and then drank a lot of alcohol. Andrew Flintoff was famous for his parties, then he got so drunk that at around 2 o’clock in the night, he went out alone to the sea shore and boarded a boat present there and went into the sea. About 7 years after this incident, Andrew Flintoff once told the whole story.

Flintoff said that I was drunk when we were on the beach. So I saw a boat and it seemed to me that Ian Botham was sitting there because we had finished our liquor so I started going towards him thinking that I would get liquor there and I would drink more with him. Well, that did not happen and he got stuck in the middle of the sea, that night the hotel staff somehow pulled Flintoff out of the sea.

Next morning when he woke up in his room, he saw that the bed was completely wet and sand was scattered everywhere. Flintoff did not remember what happened and how it happened. Andrew Flintoff could not play the match against Canada the next day, England could not even reach the semi-finals in this tournament.
